UOW Bollywood Festival

Dust off your best sari and put on your dancing shoes! UOW is set to be transformed into Bollywood and everyone is invited to enjoy the colour, flavours and films of India.

Held in the University’s lush ground from March 19-25, the Bollywood in Wollongong Festival will celebrate India’s rich and exciting culture through its program of film, dance, music and food.

A highlight of the event will be the array of Indian films including Peepli Live, Chak De India, Lagaan and 3 Idiots playing as part of the Indian Film Festiva- Bollywood and Beyond from Thursday March 22 to Sunday March 25.

An exhibition of colourful Bollywood film posters will also be on display in the University Hall foyer throughout the festival.

The festivities will finish on a high with the Family Festival Day which will take place from 10am on Sunday March 25. The day will feature free entertainment, kids activities, market stalls, Indian food, dance and cooking lessons and a Bollywood DJ.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Joe Chicharo said the festival was an opportunity to showcase the best of India.

“The University has attempted to increase its ties with India over the past year. Last year we announced plans to set up a campus in the Indian city of Ahmedabad,” he said.

“The festival will be a lot of fun and is all about cultural linkages and allowing our students and community to get a better idea of Indian society.”

The Bollywood in Wollongong Festival will run from March 19-25 around the University of Wollongong’s Duckpond Lawn. The Family Festival Day is a free event and will be held from 10am on Sunday March 25. Tickets for Bollywood film screenings can be purchased online or at UniShop. Single, concession and family passes are available.

For more information and a full list of the activities on offer visit the Bollywood in Wollongong website and RSVP on Facebook.
